This book gives an excellent up-to-date review of aquatic species invasions in Europe. The editors have done an excellent job in collecting all these contributions, which give a nice overview of our knowledge of the introduced species in European waters. It is the standard work for invasions … 2020-12-4 · Invasions by nonnative plants are commonplace in coastal and freshwater ecosystem across North America. These plant invasions are suspected to alter community structure, food webs, and ecosystem function. We lack quantitiative data on ecosystem impacts that could guide management.

Abstract Alligator weed Alternanthera philoxeroides (Mart.) Griseb. is an amphibious plant that aggressively invades aquatic and terrestrial environments. It has invaded at least 14 countries and is difficult to control. The present study investigates the effectiveness of herbicides and physical removal in eliminating patches of aquatic alligator weed in an early stage of invasion. The global scale of alien species invasions is becoming more and more evident in the beginning ofthe new millennium.

In China, aquatic ecosystems have been highly disturbed by the introduction and spread of non-native invasive species. Unfortunately, problems of biological invasions in aquatic ecosystems have been largely overlooked and lessons from known disasters are learned slowly, despite that negative effects are frequently detected and reported.
